The Merc With a Mouth (pencils)

More Marvel-based fanart, this time a piece I've been working my confidence up to for a while ... specifically virtually indestructible mutant mercenary and former "graduate" of the Weapon X program Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool.  Otherwise known as ... yup, the title says it all.  I love this guy, he's frickin' AWESOME - he's just so much fun, from his self-reverence, egomania and grandstanding self-promotion to his permanent, hilarious lifelong delusion and complete inability to shut up.  He's basically like G.I. Joe's Snake Eyes reimagined by Quentin Tarantino.  I love that.

I went as gently as I could with my tendency for "redesign" - his look's so damn iconic, I love that whole day-glo red-and-black ninja thing, it's about as discrete as Wolverine's blue and yellow spandex suit with the bit horns.  A few little touches here and there (like the sort-of "tabi" boots, but then they just scream ninja, so ...), but by and large he's come through pretty pure.  More than that, once I cracked the pose this proved ridiculously easy and enjoyable to draw - end result this may actually be the most fun piece of art I've made in a while.  And it could be my best in ages, too ...
