Huntress

Another DC babe, and, like my recent Black Canary revisit, another one of the fantastic Birds of Prey - the stunning Helena Rosa Bertinelli, otherwise known as the current Huntress. I'll admit I've not been a fan of this character for that long - unlike with Canary or Catwoman, it wasn't until I discovered the Birds of Prey comics not too long ago that I came across Huntress ... but of course it was kinda love at first sight. She's a fantastic character - tough, ballsy and uncompromising, and just the right mixture of heroic and dark. Just my kinda super-girl, basically ...

It all stems from one proper dark past, of course. She was the daughter of a major Gotham crime boss, until rivals of her father murdered her entire family right in front of her, prompting her to begin a one-woman crusade to wipe out all of Gotham's mobsters. But, while she started out as quite a dark, vengeance-fuelled avenger, over time she's been brought back to the side of good, thanks mainly to the friendly influence of former Batgirl Barbara Gordon (Oracle) and fellow Bird of Prey Dinah Lance (Black Canary). She's still a tough justice kinda girl, but at least these days she knows how and when to pull her punches ...

This was the most fun I've had, fanart wise, since my second Black Canary piece, and I'd like to think it shows. I'm really happy with the great success of the colour work, particularly the (admittedly fanboy-favoured ) spandex effect, and the design's worked great too. I decided to go with the older costume, with the extra skin, over the catsuit - they're both sexy looks, but this one's just more iconic in my opinion ... but I decided against colouring her utility belt purple like it is in the comics - that's just a touch too daft, methinks. I also came up with a similar background to Black Canary's - since they're team-mates I figured it might be cool to create a bit of a pattern here. I'm almost certainly gonna have a go at the other Birds of Prey before too long ...
