Yeah, I've FINALLY got some new artwork to submit! :phew: Not only that, but this is something I've been meaning to drop in here for AGES, and I finally got round to putting it all together, so here it is.

As I'm sure some of you should remember, I am an INSANELY geeky fan of Frank Herbert's spectacularly epic hard sci-fi opera Dune saga, and for ages now (at least on and off ^^;) I've been working on an ever-evolving series of fanart/etc based on the series. And of course there are few things in the saga more important than the Fremen, so getting their look sorted was a serious necessity ... ;)

Anyways, the coolest thing about the Fremen of Arrakis, BY FAR, is the stillsuit, the all-purpose water-reclamation "survival suit" they wear in the desert. I had SO MUCH FUN working on the design for this, even if it did go though an awful lot of permutations before I got to this version, which I'd say is about as close as I think I can get to a definitive. I'll admit I was somewhat influenced by the David Lynch version, but I tried to work out the actual mechanics of how this would actually work as well, so it's a bit more workmanlike. That said, I'm not really a particularly technically-minded person, so if this totally wouldn't work don't hate me for it, okay? ^^;

Safe to say when I (eventually) start producing more Dune art I'll be using this basic design for the stillsuits, or at least some refined variation (:XD:) ... meanwhile, guess I'd better get back to those Harkonnens ... :lol:

Oh yeah, PLEASE download to get a proper look ... but I'll warn you it's a pretty massive file ...

mechanical pencil and Pilot Hi-tecpoints on cartridge paper, composition in Gimp 2.6. All the Dune stuff is property of the estate of Frank Herbert.
